On the hunt for a creamy, refreshing drink that is sure to satiate your craving for a sweet, energizing drink? Look no further than this Immune Boosting Chaga Earl Grey Latte.
At this point we’ve all heard about the amazing benefits of coconut oil, but what about coconut butter?
The Benefits of Coconut Butter
Coconut butter is made from the ground meat of the coconut, the thick white part. As you could probably guess, coconut butter shares many of the same benefits as coconut oil and more.
Coconut butter is abundant in health fats — medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) in particular. This type of healthy fat actually gets burned for energy at a rather efficient pace, making the chances of it being stored for fat less likely. Another benefit to this butter is its abundance of lauric acid. Lauric acid is rich in antimicrobial and antiviral properties, making it a key component in improving the health of the immune system.
Another key ingredient in this Earl Grey Lavender Latte is chaga. The chaga mushroom is the mushroom commonly known for being the feature of mushroom coffee and mushroom tea. But why is this mushroom in particular so popular? For starters, it upholds an ORAC value of 146, 700. (2)
But what does this mean?
ORAC, or Oxygen Radical Absorbent Capacity, is a value used to determine the food’s ability to protect the body from a particular disease — especially diseases that may cause free radical damage. Free radicals are thought of to be dangerous due to their unstable state. In fact, they’re capable of reacting with almost any compound they come in contact with. They’re constantly on a hunt for chemical components that other cells have but that they themselves are lacking.
What are the other benefits of chaga?
Like other mushrooms, chaga is a type of fungus. While their antioxidant content is rather impressive, they lack any other key nutritional components (besides being a hefty source of fiber). So what other benefits does chaga provide?
- Decrease tumor size
- Increase immune system cells
- Rich antiviral abilities
- Help reduce inflammation
- Help increase physical endurance
Decrease Tumor Size
Could it be possible that ingesting a type of mushroom could actually prevent cancer? Perhaps. One study showed the inhibition of ceratins cancer cells developing in rats. However, studies on humans have still yet to be published. (3)
Increase Immune System
This nutritional powerhouse of a mushroom has also been shown to increase the production of immune system cells.
But how might you ask?
The properties in the chaga mushroom have a direct correlation with certain cells in the immune system, such as interleukin 6 and lymphocytes.
Rich in Antiviral Abilities
Chaga mushrooms contain an abundant amount of antiviral abilities. In fact, chaga has a strong anti-viral impact on viruses such as HIV type 1 and hepatitus C virus.
Help Reduce Inflammation
Many processed foods and foods abundant in carbs and sugar are key causes of inflammation throughout the body and brain. But luckily for us, there are a few things we can change in regards to our nutrition to decrease this inflammation. One of these things being the consumption of chaga.
One study showed that the chaga mushrooms anti-inflammatory effect had to do with the chaga’s ability to suppress the chemical causing the inflammation in the first place.
Increase Physical Endurance
Chaga mushrooms have been shown to actually increase physical endurance. In fact, consuming chaga mushroom has the potential to increase muscle as well as decreasing lactic acid levels in the blood stream. (4)
