Heat destroys flavor and antioxidants. That's why we invented Cold CrystallizationTM. To extract and crystallize the fresh flavor and powerful antioxidants in loose leaf tea using minimal heat. This ensures the maximum preservation of all the active ingredients and flavor compounds in tea.
Work directly with trusted tea farms in India, China, and Sri Lanka to harvest the highest quality tea at its peak freshness
Brew tea leaves at low temperatures for long periods to gently extract its flavor and antioxidants. Like steeping repeatedly 10-20 times
Lock in the amazing flavor and precious antioxidants at peak freshness and maximum potential
SEALED FOR FRESHNESS
Pack into single-serve, light-proof, moisture-proof, air-tight packets to ensure freshness and antioxidant activity
Volume x Concentration = Benefits
Everyone knows tea is beneficial. It's one of the most widely researched healthy foods under the sun. What few people realize is that reaping the incredible health benefits of tea requires consuming it in both adequate quantity (volume) and quality (active ingredient concentration). This is why we've made Pique taste great and easy to prepare so you drink enough, while containing higher levels of antioxidants compared to teabags and bottled tea.
Studies have concluded that tea bags can contain more than 10x times the antioxidant levels of bottled tea and the majority of bottled teas contain virtually no antioxidants at all. In comparison, Pique Tea Crystals contains up to 6x more antioxidants than leading teabags. The chart below compares the catechin content in Pique (a green tea antioxidant) versus leading teabags.
Naturally occurring, whole food compounds
Everyone knows natural is better and whole foods is a phenomenon. But what do they really mean? Let's clarify this in our terms. We analyze the active ingredients in Pique to quantify them so you can make smarter, more informed choices. What we don't do is isolate active ingredients (such as polyphenols and l-theanine) and add it to our Tea Crystals to boost their concentration. Why? Well, not just because it's unnatural, but because 1) studies have shown that isolates are hard for your body to absorb, 2) scientist's ability to pinpoint exactly which ingredients in foods are truly beneficial is limited, and 3) in the vast majority of cases, active ingredients are only effective when consumed together with the other compounds in those foods, or in other words as mother nature intended.
This is what natural, whole foods mean to us. Our innovation is ensuring we've captured all the active ingredients naturally present in loose leaf tea (more effectively than you could) and deliver it in a convenient form so you can easily consume adequate quantities of it.
Active ingredient powerhouse
When the active ingredients in Pique work together as nature intended, they can help you achieve an unparalleled state of energy, clarity and focus, otherwise known as the flow state. Athletes breaking world records or playing the career defining match of their lives are in this state. As are artists and musicians creating masterpieces where every bit of inspiration flows freely through them without thought or effort. Even business people access flow states when negotiating and closing the biggest deal of their lives. #fuelyourflow
Tea contains a large number of important amino acids. L-theanine in particular stimulates the production of alpha wave activity in the brain, resulting in a state of calm alertness. L-theanine promotes relaxation and reduces anxiety while heightening concentration. In Pique, l-theanine and caffeine work together to produce sustained and focused energy. Buddhist monks all over the world give up everything, but drink tea throughout the day because it helps them reach higher states of awareness and consciousness.
When tea is digested, its caffeine molecules bind to more stable, larger molecules, such as catechins. This slows the breakdown of caffeine in the bloodstream and creates a time-release effect. This counteracts the negative side effects of caffeine, which in coffee can lead to cortisol production. Cortisol is the stress hormone that pushes your nervous system into flight or fight mode to create the anxiety, nervousness and jittery paranoia needed to flee or take on a threat. Experiencing this on a daily basis? Probably not a good idea. Cortisol also leads to weight gain.
Pique is full of catechins (a subclass of polyphenols), which are super-powered antioxidants that boosts your immunity. They counteract inflammation and help fight bacteria and infections. All the while you're drinking tea, catechins are working behind the scenes to make you healthier and eliminate imbalances in your body. Even though imbalances are not noticeable to most people; when neglected, they inevitably lead to noticeable health problems (symptoms) that require more aggressive treatment. So why not nip health issues in the bud before they develop into problems? Catechins are also known to have a synergistic effect with the caffeine in tea to further increase metabolism.
Demystifying black tea antioxidants
Everyone thinks black tea is inferior to green tea because it has lower antioxidant levels. This is absolutely false. When tea transforms from green to black through oxidation like a leaf fallen from a tree, catechins are converted into another type of antioxidants called theaflavins. Theaflavins are simply harder measure because they are less researched and generally less talked about in the media. In the Far East, they're known as a powerful detoxifier. Theaflavins purify the blood of fats, sugars and other impurities while boosting digestion. Black tea has been used in Southern China for thousands of years as a must have detoxifier after meals or sweets.
What isn't in Pique
Pique is sugar-free and virtually calorie-free. It is also free of all artificial ingredients, preservatives and stabilizers that are found in other tea products. It's also free of the materials used to make tea bags. Aside from loose leaf tea, Pique is as pure as tea gets. And don't get us wrong, we love loose leaf tea. We just don't always have the time and utensils for it.
